#75. Minha bicicleta nova, os fins e os começos/My new bicycle, the ends and the beginnings

[English version below]

Quem diria.
Minha nova bicicleta custou metade do preço daquela outra.

* * *

Eu sou outra e minha bicicleta agora é verde. Grande, pesada, robusta, barata, grosseira, artesanal.
Azul.
Alemã.

[ENGLISH]

I bought a bike today. My new two-wheel friend comes to replace the old one - that which once crossed through and with me three months, five thousand kilometers across France and Spain. Two years ago we were finishing our journey and taking the plane back to Switzerland. I half survived, but the bike was robbed in front of the library a couple of months later, in Geneva.
No one could tell by then.
My new bicycle is much cheaper than the older one. It is huge, heavy, tough, cheap, German, rough, handmade. I got it from an old man that speaks a language I can't understand. His job consists of taking people into bike tours around Thailand, and he puts the bicycles together himself. Each one of them has the same components, every frame is painted with the same fluorescent green and carries the same sticker from that same company. Velociped. When the summer is over, the bike touring season comes to an end. He opens the doors, outs the old bikes on sale and start to prepare new ones for the coming summer.
The bike I chose is three years-old. I know nothing about the countries where she has been too, but I sense she's quite an experienced one. She does not come to me like my previous partner - brand new, untouched, light gray, shiny-sexy. Me neither. I'm not like that old Mariana that rode a silver bike for the first time with the glow of someone who is starting to discover herself as a cyclist and a traveler.
In September, 2015, my bicycle and me have a second-hand beginning. Full of countries and roads, we are. Yes, we were well maintained thus we're in good shape. But if you look a little closer, then you'll notice our inside is just too full of kilometers.

* * *

Walking the streets of Germany, I realize autumn has arrived because by the late afternoon I'm going crazy without a hat and gloves. Seating by my side on the bed, Marvin draws our map in the air. Tomorrow we take our bikes to Berlin by car, and from Berlin we cycle up towards the coast, close to the border with Denmark, and then Leipzig, Dresden, back to Marburg, Frankfurt.
I couldn't tell by then.
That from One I would one day hit the road as Two, looking for cities where we want to live together. That one day I would really have to learn German - this terrible language that seems to have been created in Mars. That I'd be crazy enough to say yes to bike touring in the freezing German autumn. That this new bike tour of mine, short and improvised, would come into place as a way to lay roots, not as the spreading of wings wide, for the other one meant the destruction of every further possible illusion of stability. That I would be finishing the book of the past bike tour on the road, side by side with the friend that became boyfriend. The same one I met back then, two years ago when I cycled by myself in Andaluzia.
I'm a different self and my bike now is green. Marvin's hair has grown, and so did his beard. But his bicycle is still the same he had two years ago. Huge, heavy, tough, cheap, rough, handmade.
Blue.
German.

#73. Love story

I come home to find you waiting in front of the coffee shop. A huge backpack, new beard and glasses, the silent eyes still the same from long ago. So I take your hand, we count to three and here we are, again: white rabbit's hole, time has come for our free fall. Too small to enter the door, then too huge to go through, again and again our drinking from the magic potion until yes: we're now allowed to cross into the other side.
You take my hand and guide me into deep sleep by the stormy beach, full moon and our resurrection the next morning, my head shaved a second time while I watch your beard and hair disappearing through the engines of your tiny machine. I take your hand, newborn are we this time, our legs walking as fast as our hair into the mountains of this place, on and off the garden of our new home, our cigarettes being smoked in silence just before we went to bed. Four feet bouncing in the streets of Germany, and I never told you but it felt as if it were the streets who were walking our shoes, unmoving we go from the winter streets to the dark dance floors until that little little bird comes to sing by your window.
Our hands together, now, and I drink slowly from your coffee, hold you tight as we watch the sun going down. The drinking of our magic potion just before we jump from a new cliff. My head pressed tight against the window and the bus leaving, me waving my goodbye and inviting the silence who now comes to make me company. I smile from inside as it comes, crystal clear: separation is nothing but a word.
Love inside a cup of cappuccino, love like a little death every second, love like our eternal rebirth together, ever and again. Love, no full stop

#72. The Sahaja Diaries: Across the universe/Os Diários do Sahaja: Across the universe

[versão em português abaixo]

The little ants moving along, a leaf falls from a tree, the tap that leaks a drop after the other (so slowly), the first breath of someone waking up alone in a tent, my heartbeat and smell, clouds moving, hair growing, the touch of a fingernail, vegetables rotting outside and water growing ice in the fridge, every second the sun puts a tiny bit of light in the sky and we don't see it until the day comes out. Unnoticed, too, I touch Sahaja's fingers who wave me their goodbyes today.

I'm leaving an entire life here and nobody seems to notice. So I sit alone in the temple and cry with no purpose or intention, sobbing for an hour before no witnesses, without feeling a thing, without understanding a thing, no sadness and no relief, no fear and no happiness. It's a sobbing that knows no bottom or essence - I'm nothing more than a person sobbing, just a me burping out an entire life of chocking. Little ant moving along, a leaf falling from the tree, a tap that leaks all water at once, I'm now about to come out from the enchanted crack of Nowhereland to return in Time without knowing who I am, without knowing how I will stand the world again, where do these tears come from, why do they have to come out, and why - why do I have to come back? Where's home?

I'm a crack in time myself, more crawling than walking away, and in my hopelessness I feel a man's hand touching mine in the train. It's warm and gentle. From the window I can watch Sahaja moving away from me, but Lennon doesn't let it go while he still whispers a secret in my right ear:

-Nothing's gonna change my world.

* Sahaja: seen from the perspective of someone who is leaving

** Between 24 June and 23rd July I lived in "Monte Sahaja", the ashram of my guru in the southern region of Portugal. This is the last entry I wrote in my diary while I was there. They've been published here under the title "The Sahaja Diaries", a sort of chapter in the wider landscape of my "Summer Diaries" series.
All love and gratitude to Mooji-ji, in whose feet my head is always resting.
All love and gratitude to my Mooji sangha friends, whose presence I feel deeply in my heart wherever I am.

* * *

Onde é a minha casa?

-Nothing's gonna change my world.

#71. The Sahaja Diaries: Everythingness/Os Diários do Sahaja: Tudo

[versão em português logo abaixo]

What is left of you when there's no you out there is this:

                                                everything

Because it's about eating breakfast in silence.
40 degrees Celsius and the body sweating in despair.
Chopping onions for two hours and noticing little by little that each of them has its own texture, and that each of them requires you to use the knife in a special way.
It's about bucket shower and very little electricity.
Me running towards Mooji's feet to kiss them in his muddy New Balance shoes.
About meeting these people, eating chocolate nonstop, touching the heart of fear and allowing it to go its ways [crossing my eyes with others and recognize they have it there, too]. About encounters which are wordless.
Belonging completely by not belonging at all, therefore it's about overcoming disconnection through disconnection itself. Feeling as worth as a tree or a rock, away from stories and projects, made out of scratch: pure, invisible, imperfect, unbounded, unrehearsed, unpredictable, and just because of that - infinite.

What is left of you when there's no you out there is this:

                                                love

** Between 24 June and 23rd July I lived in "Monte Sahaja", the ashram of my guru in the southern region of Portugal. This is the 6th of a series of 7 entries I wrote while I was there. They'll be published here under the title "The Sahaja Diaries", a sort of chapter in the wider landscape of my "Summer Diaries" series.
All love and gratitude to Mooji-ji, in whose feet my head is always resting.
All love and gratitude to my Mooji sangha friends, whose presence I feel deeply in my heart wherever I am.

40 graus centígrados e o corpo suando desesperadamente.

                                                amor

#70. The Sahaja Diaries: Emptiness/Os Diários do Sahaja: Vazio

[versão em português logo abaixo]

#1. emptiness

What is left of you when there is no trace of you living your life out there is this:

                                            none

It's the end of my second week in Sahaja and I'm gone.
No more than a shell, not even the organs inside my body i can sense.
Not missing anyone, no feeling of being found or lost, no happiness, no excitement, nothing to tell.
May a comet crash against the planet now; may I break my leg. All same same.  Same measure, same height, same importance. Therefore: no importance at all.
Life's not a balloon ride anymore because now I can't find neither my personal life nor the balloon.
The only life worth living is the one in which i simply do not exist.

#2. voyage dans la lune

it was supposed to be 2 weeks, but suddenly the days start to pile up from resistance to emptiness. walking back to my tent in the night, and notice I do not need a flashlight this time because the moon has grown bigger. so it comes to me like this:         i cannot leave before watching a full moon in Sahaja.
So I ask for an extension.
I’m now staying in Sahaja for a month.

#1. vazio

#69. The Sahaja Diaries: Ghost/Os Diários do Sahaja: Fantasma

[versão em português logo abaixo]

You grow, you grow like tornado
You grow from the inside
Destroy everything through
Destroy from the inside
Erupt like volcano
You flow from the inside
You kill everything through
You kill from the inside [Jónsi, Tornado]

I have no room, just a tiny tent inside which I placed my little shrine. Wake-up, work in the kitchen, cooking, washing dishes, cleaning shelters, sweeping and mopping the floor. And when I'm not working, then I'm singing devotional songs or sitting by myself in silence or around Mooji in satsang, and eventually washing my clothes.  Hands smelling like onions and garlic and submerged in the rule of silence and no social interactions of the ashram, I have no books to read, no films to watch in my computer, no private space other than the little blue tent, no meetings with friends, internet surfing, shopping, phone calls. No close remainders of who I am, no make-up to look better or a nice pair of jeans, no compliments and no clue of how I’m seen like by others, of my career and prospects, no memories of my past recollected in my contact with the ones that live here with me. None treats me like a doctoral student, lover, an old friend, or an official officer, or a rockn’ roll lover, or a cyclist, a yogi, daughter, colleague. I’m none to be seen and none to see.

The sun rises and sets and I don't notice because I'm just not there, entertaining anything personal about my life. I'm not moving on, becoming better, thinking about me, doing something for my own good. This is not a place where we're seeking evolution, anyways - it's never been about this. There's me, there’s silence and nature. That’s all.

It feels like I’m a ghost living through the very bare nature of flesh. What are you when you’re stripped from your humanity? Where’s time when there’s no newspaper and office hours? When there’s a pervasive ignoring of all your deeds from the past which constitute your very personality, of memories, of the traces of constructed beauty&style in your body you strive so much to maintain? Where is time when there's no thinking? When you're driven into ignoring and erasing them all in the present presence of chopping garlic? When you’re fully busy with activities that have to be executed here and now, no distractions – chop these onions, wash the cauliflowers, clean the counters? What are you when you have no reason to check how you look in the mirror, when you’re nothing but the flesh that walks your invisible way alone among so many others?

What is left of you when there’s no time past and no dreams?

What is actually left from you when there is no you out there?

You grow, you grow like tornado
You grow from the inside
Destroy everything through
Destroy from the inside
Erupt like volcano
You flow from the inside
You kill everything through
You kill from the inside  [Jónsi, Tornado]
